photo editing/graphic design classes

August 14, 2012 in homepage, medialab

Who needs expensive programs or expensive classes? Graphic designer Dan Lisiecki can teach you to use free software to edit your photos,  and create signs, ads or avatars. This class is perfect for anyone who has ever:

  • posted a photo online
  • made a flyer
  • created an ad
  • made a sign
  • put together a holiday card
  • wanted to create digital art
  • designed a website
  • used Photoshop for anything
  • wanted to use Photoshop for anything

This is the first in a series of classes. Come to one or to all of them and learn more than you thought possible with hands-on help from a graphic design pro. It’s suitable for people with basic computer skills, who have the basics of using a mouse, opening and saving files–teens through adults.

This class is free at the Lomira QuadGraphics Community Library, on Thursdays September 13 and 20, at 6 pm. More graphic design classes are planned for October. Contact Shannon at 920.269.4115 ext. 155 or shannonb@mwfls.org with questions.

Ever wished you could draw your own logo, record a radio spot, film a commercial, craft a podcast, or make music without having to know how to play an instrument? Come to the library’s  brand-new medialab to use the equipment you need to make digital art.

The Lomira QuadGraphics Community Library has just started putting together the tools you need to create print, audio, video, web design and other digital files that can help you with your business, school, hobbies, or just to have fun.

Currently the library offers Flip video cameras, tripods, a professional-level microphone and a Bamboo tablet that translates your doodles and drawings into high-quality digital images. We have Photoshop Digital Elements, Autodesk Sketchbook Pro, Corel Painter Essentials 4, Nik Color Efecs Pro3, Reaper Digital Audio Workshop and Audacity for recording audio files. These materials can be used in the library, using the medialab laptop.

The library will be continuously improving the medialab, with more equipment and software, as well as classes and workshops to teach you how to use these tools.  We support your information literacy, and want to make the tools and skills available for 21st century content creation needs–which are already a major part of every job and profession. So please let the library know what creative tools YOU could use.

The first medialab classes will be held in May:

Thursday, May 10, 6 pm. PC Tuneup. Learn how to keep your computer running smoothly. This program is geared toward computer newbies, but even pros can learn a new trick or two.

Thursday, May 31, 6 pm. WordPress for Small Businesses. Learn how to build a website quickly and painlessly, using an online free program called WordPress.
